Winter weather expected mid-week

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM WEDNESDAY TO 1 AM PST THURSDAY

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Medford, Ore. office of the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of Southern Oregon, as up to 6 inches of snow is expected.

The most significant, steady snowfall is expected generally from Modoc Point on Highway 97 northward.

Along with the snow, windy conditions are expected. With gusts as high as 50 mph in exposed areas in Klamath County and up to 65 mph in high terrain areas of Lake County.

The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7:00 AM Wednesday to 1:00 AM Thursday.

Impacted areas consist of locations east of the Cascades including Highway 97 from northern portions of Klamath Falls north to Crescent, Highway 140 at Bly Mountain and Quartz Mountain Summit, and Warner Mountain Summit.

Plan on slippery road conditions. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties. NWS Advisory levels defined.

Snow is likely for areas above 2000 feet tomorrow. The areas most impacted will be the Mt. Shasta City area, the Cascades, and Siskiyous. Portions of the East Side will see some moderate snow and some gusty winds, and this could create some hazardous travel conditions. If you must travel, keep tire chains, a flashlight, blankets, food, water, medications, and a fully charged phone with you. Check road conditions before you go.
