Winter Weather Advisory issued through 4:00 AM Wednesday

MEDFORD, Ore. - Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected through Tuesday night across northern California, and the Oregon Cascades and east side above 3000 feet, including portions of Interstate 5 near Mount Shasta and all Cascade and East Side passes.

Expect generally 2-5 inches of snow for most areas, with up to a foot of snow or more possible around the Mount Shasta area and over the peaks and ridges of the Cascades and east side.

Slippery, snow-covered roads are expected and travel may become difficult. Travelers should monitor conditions and plan for winter driving conditions.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM TUESDAY TO 4 AM PST WEDNESDAY

WHAT
Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

WHERE
In California, eastern portions of Modoc County, including the Warners and portions of Hwy 395 and 299.

In Oregon, the higher terrain of eastern Klamath County and western Lake County including the Winter Rim. This also affects some lower elevations including portions of Hwy 31, 395, and 140, and the communities of Paisley, Summer Lake, Lakeview, and Valley Falls.

WHEN
From 4 PM Tuesday to 4 AM PST Wednesday.

IMPACTS
Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.

NWS Advisory Levels

  • A Winter Weather Advisory will be issued for any amount of freezing rain, or when 2 to 4 inches of snow (alone or in combination with sleet and freezing rain), is expected to cause a significant inconvenience, but not serious enough to warrant a warning.

  • A Winter Storm Watch is issued when there is the potential for significant and hazardous winter weather within 48 hours. It does not mean that significant and hazardous winter weather will occur.

  • A Blizzard Warning means that the following conditions are occurring or expected within the next 12 to 18 hours.

  • A Winter Storm Warning is issued when a significant combination of hazardous winter weather is occurring or imminent.
