Winter Storm Warning issued for Cascades & Siskiyous; Winter Weather Advisory for Klamath Basin

MEDFORD, Ore. - Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected Sunday into Sunday night across the mountains and for areas east of the Cascades and in Northern California above 4000 feet. Snowfall rates may approach 1 inch per hour in the Southern Oregon Cascades at times Sunday into Sunday evening.

Snow levels are expected to be around 3000 to 4000 feet on Sunday as this storm moves into the area, lowering to 2000 to 3000 feet Sunday evening and night. Light snow is possible in showers at lower pass levels and for elevations down to 2000 feet Sunday night into Monday morning.

Also, moderate mountain snow is expected again on Monday across Northern California.

Slippery, snow covered roads are expected and travel may become difficult. Travelers should monitor conditions and plan for winter driving conditions.

For the Winter Storm Warning, heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

For the Winter Weather Advisory, snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches. Westerly winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

WHERE
The Winter Storm Warning includes portions of the South Central Oregon Cascades, such as Crater Lake and Diamond Lake, Portions of Highway 62, Highway 138, and Highway 230.

The Winter Weather Advisory includes the rest of the Southern Oregon Cascades and a portion of the Siskiyous to include Interstate 5 at Siskiyou Summit, Highway 140 in and around Lake of the Woods, Highway 66, and Highway 58 including Willamette Pass and Crescent Lake.

For the Winter Weather Advisory, snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches. Southwest winds gusting as high as 55 mph, strongest between Silver Lake and Paisley.

WHERE
The Winter Storm Warning is for the Warner Mountains including portions of Highway 140 east of Lakeview and Highway 395 south of Lakeview.

The Winter Weather Advisory is for much of Lake County. This includes Fort Rock, Summer Lake, Valley Falls, Lakeview, and Adel. Highways impacted include 395, 140, and 31. A lesser amount of only up to 2 inches is expected for far northeastern Lake County.

For the first Winter Storm Warning above 3000 feet, heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches, except 8 to 16 inches for some of the higher terrain. South to southwest winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

For the second Winter Storm Warning above 3000 feet, heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches.

WHERE
Western Siskiyou County and Central Siskiyou County. For the first Winter Storm Warning this includes portions of Sawyers Bar road near Mt. Etna and north of the Forks of Salmon; Highway 96 and between the Seiad Valley and Happy Camp; and Highway 3 east of Fort Jones. The second Winter Storm Warning is only for the southern portion of the Shasta Valley area, including Weed and portions of Interstate 5 and Highway 97.

An additional, but lesser accumulation is also expected for the higher terrain of northwest Siskiyou County during Monday.
