Red Flag Warning issued for Sunday, August 23 [EXTENDED]

The 2020 Summer Weather Alerts are brought to you by Cora Christ, Country Financial.

The National Weather Service in Medford has extended the Red Flag Warning which is in effect today from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM to also include a second Red Flag Warning for Monday, August 24, 2020, from 2:00 AM - 11:00 PM.

Gusty winds and low humidity are expected this afternoon and evening east of the Cascades and in Northeast California with Haines 6 over the Crane wildfire.

No thunderstorms are expected today, but chances increase late tonight into Tuesday as the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Genevieve move northward into the area.

Nighttime and morning storms are possible and will feature very little rain. The best chance for scattered lightning looks to be in Northern California and for areas east of the Cascades.

Another warming trend is possible late next week before at least a brief cool down next weekend.

Red Flag Warning - Sunday

A Red Flag Warning is in effect Sunday, August 23, 2020, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM for strong gusty winds and low relative humidity and isolated thunderstorms with little to no rainfall.

Red Flag Warning - Monday

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Monday, August 24, 2020 from 2:00 AM to 11:00 PM for abundant lighting on dry fuels for fire weather zones 284, 285, 624, and 625. (Klamath, Lake, Modoc, and Siskiyou Counties)

Affected area:
South Central Oregon, Klamath Basin, and Fremont-Winema National Forest

Wind:
Southwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph Sunday afternoon and evening.

Humidity:
As low as 8 percent Sunday afternoon and evening. *

Haines Index:
5 to 6 (Moderate to High) Sunday afternoon and evening.

Thunderstorms:
Generally, isolated thunderstorms are possible as early as Monday morning, continuing through Tuesday afternoon. Those storms that occur during the late night and morning hours will feature little rain, but could contain gusty outflows.

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.
