Red Flag Warning issued for today; Hot, dry, and windy conditions expected

Hot, dry, and windy conditions are expected for Tuesday and Wednesday Afternoon. Red Flag Warnings have been issued for parts of Klamath, Lake, Modoc, and Siskiyou Counties

MEDFORD, Ore. - Very hot and dry conditions are expected for the next couple of days. Critical conditions for wind and humidity are favorable, especially in the Modoc and Southern Lake, and Klamath County areas.

Temperatures return to more seasonal values mid to late week, with dry and at times windy conditions remaining in the afternoons. There is a low to very low chance for an isolated thunderstorm in west-central Siskiyou County, along the Cascade crest, and in northern Lake County this afternoon and evening and again Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Abnormally hot conditions under a ridge of high pressure have already created critically dry conditions east of the Cascades. As an upper-level trough begins to displace the ridge currently over the area, winds during the afternoon will become gusty. This will result in critical conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
