Excessive Heat Warning issued this week

MEDFORD, Ore. - This week will be extra hot for the Klamath Basin, and it’s not just because it is July. A ridge of high pressure has settled in above the Pacific Northwest causing Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories to be issued from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to Weed, California.

The Klamath Basin will see near record, triple-digit temperatures over the next many days. According to extremeweatherwatch.com the all-time record high for Klamath Falls in July is 103 degrees Feirnheight. This week Klamath Falls is forecast to flirt with the record all week and hit 103 twice on Tuesday and Friday.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 9 PM PDT SATURDAY

WHAT
Dangerously hot daily high temperatures between 95 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit for lower elevations and 85 to 95 degrees for mid elevations up to 6000 feet. Overnight lows will also be much warmer than normal, mostly in the upper 50s to mid 60s.

WHERE
The Siskiyou Mountains, southern Oregon Cascades, and the Upper Klamath Basin including Klamath Falls, Keno, Chiloquin, Dairy, Worden, Midland, Merrill, Olene, Bonanza, and Lorella.

WHEN
From 1 PM this afternoon to 9 PM PDT Saturday.

IMPACTS
Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
