UPDATE, 8:28PM, 8/6/19

The current total of the auction is now $741,000 and continues to grow. As people pay their bills, buyers often round up the total to help the youth. This boost increases auction totals.

The final day of the Klamath County Fair is home to the Rotary Livestock Auction, the true purpose of the fair. For most 4-H and FFA youngsters, a year of raising livestock culminates at the fair with the sale of their animal inside auction ring.

This years 84th annual auction was record shattering. Raising nearly $100,000 more sales dollars than the 2018 auction.

"The 2019 Rotary Club / 4-H Junior Livestock Auction was a tremendous success," said Dan Keppen, this year's Rotary "Bull of the Woods" for auction. "The attendance was excellent, throughout the day. Our community spent over $710,000 supporting 4-H /FFA young leaders by purchasing their animals. This is a new record, beating the previous record set last year by about $100,000."

A 1392 pound steer raised by Jasmine Schock sold for $20,880. The most of any animal at the auction, Schock’s beef sold for $15 per pound and purchased by Traynham Ranches.

“I tripled my budget this year, and still spent more [on auction animals],” said Ryan Kliewer a local Klamath Basin producer.

“I spent way more than I should have, but it is the right thing to do.” said Klamath Basin cattle rancher, Jason Chapman.

Keppen believes going to the 4-H auction is a great way to show support for our local community.

"You are supporting the growth of civic-minded young people who may someday return the favor to our community," he said. "I'd like to thank our Rotarians, the 4-H and FFA competitors, and our community for making this year's auction such a success."

Horse Fair

The main part of fair may be over, but the events continue with ‘Horse Fair’ this week. Participants ages 10-18 participate in both English and Western riding events inside the Stillwell Arena at the Klamath County Fairgrounds.

Horse Fair events include: herdsmanship, showmanship, Gaming (figure 8, key hole, individual flag, NSCA flag, poles, barrels), dressage, English & Western riding, bareback equitation, costume, ranch horse trail, ranch horse skills, roping, cow working, working horse ranch, driving, colt and young horse.

The events are free for spectators, donations are accepted.

 

Carnival Continues

Jason Wold, Owner of Wold Amusements loves Klamath Falls. He may be based out of Hanford California, but he enjoys his time in Klamath so much, that Wold has decided to keep his carnival in town for another week throughout Horse Fair.

Wold Amusements is offering daily specials and discounts for the extended carnival days. Including $10 off wristbands any day for military.
