LAKEVIEW, Ore. – Beautiful fall weather is in the forecast for this weekend and while it will be a great weekend for recreation and woodcutting, area residents and visitors are reminded to be aware of current closure orders and restrictions for the area where they are planning to work or play.
LAKEVIEW, Ore. – Yesterday, firefighters continued work to secure the line near Cougar Peak. Crews began backhauling equipment and ordering resources for suppression repair in secured areas on the southern end of the fire. Throughout the western portion of the fire, crews conducted patrol and mop-up.
LAKEVIEW, Ore. – Firefighters continue making progress lining 230 miles of fire perimeter. An increase in winds is anticipated over the next few days and are expected to test the completed dozer and handlines.
LAKEVIEW, Ore. – After significant fire activity yesterday along the northeast perimeter, the wetting rains over the fire early this morning considerably moderated fire behavior.
LAKEVIEW, Ore. – The Cougar Peak Fire was again very active today. The predicted southerly winds brought in gusts of up to 40 mph as the weather pattern moved through the fire area. It is estimated that the fire was close to doubling in size throughout the afternoon and by nightfall the fire had crossed over Clover Flat Road, making the fire an estimated 37,000 acres.
LAKEVIEW, Ore. – The Cougar Peak Fire, burning approximately 15 miles northwest of Lakeview, has grown today and is now estimated to be more than 20,000 acres with no containment.
