Chiloquin man dies in crash on US97

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - On Saturday, July 8, 2023, at approximately 1:11 AM, emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 97, at approximately milepost 264 near Hagelstein Park.

The preliminary investigation indicated a black Chevrolet Tahoe, operated by Ivan Allen Hood (26) of Chiloquin, was northbound on US97 when for unknown reasons it crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Freightliner Tanker, operated by Zachary Adam Kerley (38) of Winter Haven, Florida, head on.

Hood, the operator of the Tahoe, was declared deceased at the scene.  

Kerkey, the operator of the Freightliner, and passenger, Terry Lee Kerley (60) of Bakersfield, California, were both injured and transported to a Sky Lakes Medical Center for treatment.

US97 was impacted for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation.

Oregon State Police, Klamath County Sheriff's Office, Klamath County Fire District #1, and the Oregon Department of Transportation all responded to the incident.
